Kevin Ware

Kevin Ware (born January 3, 1993) is an American former basketball player. He is most notably remembered for suffering a gruesome open fracture of his tibia and fibula during an NCAA Elite Eight game in 2013 while playing for the Louisville Cardinals.

  • Early Life and Career: Ware played high school basketball at Rockdale County High School in Conyers, Georgia. He was a highly-rated recruit.

  • Louisville Career and Injury: Ware joined the University of Louisville basketball team in 2011. During the 2013 NCAA Tournament, while attempting to block a shot, he suffered a severe leg injury that shocked the sports world. His teammates and coaches were visibly distressed, and the injury became a major news story.

  • Recovery and Return: Despite the severity of the injury, Ware began a long rehabilitation process. He was determined to return to playing basketball.

  • Georgia State and International Career: Ware transferred to Georgia State University after his time at Louisville. He played for Georgia State for two seasons. After his college career, he pursued professional basketball opportunities overseas, playing in various leagues internationally.
